So, we recently got planetstrike here- and it is good. It seems as if it would be horrible if everyone powergamed it, but works wonderful if you view it as a fun narrative battle. It's made me want to model some buildings, as the defender gets to use the buildings for free, including guns on them!
My first game was versus Chaos Space marines, one objective only. The firestorm only managed to immobilize a monolith- much less than I had feared, as if it hit my warrior squads I would be well on my way to phasing out. 2000 points and a single objective on the table, and it felt as if every model was actively defending/pushing toward the objective from both sides. In the end, the chaos marines won, with three plague marines in close combat with 15 Necron Warriors and 2 necron Lords on top of the objective. This is slightly misleading, as my phase out was only 15- so it was close both ways. In all, it was a much more important-feeling game and objective than a normal one. It felt like my army was actively trying to achieve an objective, not just win. I approve, and me and my room mates are starting up a campaign. For each attacker win, you progress to the next mission. For each defender win, you fall back a mission. If you fall back from the first mission, the defender becomes the attacker. If the attacker wins the 6th mission, they've won.
